Dark circles are one of the most stubborn things to fix, largely because they are not one problem. Most patients who come in for a dark circle treatment have already worked through a drawer of eye creams that promised a great deal and changed little. The reason is simple: the right dark circle treatment depends entirely on why the shadow is there in the first place.

This guide explains the four types of dark circles, what actually helps for each, and what is realistic. It is written for international patients, and our English-speaking coordinators can help you plan before you travel.

Why Dark Circles Are Not All the Same

Korean dermatologists usually sort under-eye darkness into four types, because the treatments diverge sharply:

  • Pigmentation, a genuine brown discolouration in the skin, common in deeper skin tones.
  • Vascular, a blue-purple tint from blood vessels showing through thin skin.
  • Structural (hollowing), a shadow cast by a groove or loss of support beneath the eye.
  • Skin quality, crepey, thin, tired-looking skin that reads as darkness.

Most people are a mix. Getting an accurate read on which types you have is the first and most important step of any under-eye treatment, because treating a vascular circle as though it were pigment (or vice versa) wastes time and money.

What Actually Helps, by Type

For pigment, gentle brightening treatments and carefully chosen laser, the same conservative pigment approach described in our pico laser guide, can lighten the discolouration over a course.

For vascular darkness, the answer is not brightening but the blood vessels themselves; targeted vascular laser, as covered in our facial redness guide, can reduce the bluish tint.

For hollowing, the shadow is structural. Options range from a small amount of tear trough support to treatments that thicken and strengthen the thin skin so it casts less of a shadow.

For skin quality, strengthening the delicate under-eye skin is the goal, which is where skin boosters come in.

The Role of Rejuran and Skin Boosters Under the Eyes

Thin, crepey under-eye skin is one of the quiet drivers of darkness, and it responds well to a targeted booster. A Rejuran eye treatment uses polynucleotides to strengthen and thicken the delicate skin beneath the eye, improving its resilience so it looks less tired and casts less shadow. It is one of the most requested under-eye treatments in Korea for exactly this reason, and it is often part of a wider plan. Our guide to Rejuran explains how it works.

What to Expect

This is often searched as “dark circle removal,” but the honest word is improvement, not removal. Under-eye treatment is gradual and usually a short course, with results that build over weeks and are held with occasional maintenance. Because most dark circles are a mix of types, the best outcomes tend to come from a plan that addresses more than one at once, and from realistic expectations set at the start.

Is Dark Circle Treatment Right for You?

It suits patients troubled by under-eye darkness who want a proper diagnosis rather than another cream. It works best when you understand you are improving and maintaining, not erasing. If your darkness is largely structural, an honest consultation will explain what a booster or laser can and cannot do, and where a small amount of support might help instead.

Pricing and Consultation

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best dark circle treatment?

There is no single best treatment, because dark circles have different causes. Pigment, vascular, hollowing, and skin-quality circles each call for a different approach, which is why diagnosis comes first.

Can dark circles be removed completely?

Improvement is the realistic aim rather than complete removal. With the right plan, most patients can achieve brighter, less shadowed under-eyes and maintain the result.

Does Rejuran help dark circles?

A Rejuran eye treatment can strengthen thin, crepey under-eye skin so it looks less tired and casts less shadow. It is often part of a wider under-eye plan.

Is there downtime?

It depends on the treatment. Boosters may leave small bumps or slight bruising for a day or two; laser downtime is usually mild. Your doctor will explain what to expect.

How many sessions will I need?

Under-eye treatment is usually a short course with gradual improvement, followed by occasional maintenance. The number depends on the types of dark circles you have.

Can international patients get help in English?

Yes. Our English-speaking coordinators support you from the first message through the consultation to aftercare, and you are welcome to message us on WhatsApp beforehand.
